Mommy's learned a new trick

I am suffering from a Mother's day hang-over. I was showered by kindness, kisses and love for the entire day. It was if my tribe was beamed up by aliens and replaced by small creatures with manners. I sat around with my mouth hanging agape for most of the day, marvelling at my children.

Did you know that at eight and nine years of age they are old enough to make their own lunch? To clean their rooms? To flush the toilet? To do the dishes properly and without any fighting? I didn't either. They have been holding out on me.

But now that the cat is out of the bag, I'm gonna set the bar high, and aim for the moon.

I'm gonna teach 'em to cook.

It's going to be nothing but a life of leisure from now on for this Redneck mommy.

Well written! I'm both happy for you and scared at the same time. Very, very scared. One day a year of good behavior?? That gives me irritable bowl just thinking of it.

Ha! How sneaky of you! Of course, don't be too hard on them, or they may never give you a Mother's Day like that again, LOL!

Yes! My 7yo made me TOAST! All by herself! And she didn't use a half-jar of jelly on it! Or, try to stick a knife in the toaster (like some adults in my household.)

I'm gald you had a great Mother's Day. I know it's a Hallmark holiday. But like someone else said: I'll take it anyway I can git it.

When mine was 8 I taught him to do his own laundry.
I don't think he's forgiven me yet.

Good luck with that!! I think they may soon 'forget' how to do most of those things ... but at least you have the memory ;)

My 8 year old and my 6 year old made me microwaved scrambled eggs and microwaved bread with butter.

It's amazing how they hold on you, until they want to help you out isn't it? I never knew they knew how to scramble eggs in the microwave until Sunday morning when I was served.

Happy Mother's Day! Sounds like you had a lovely one.

Kids can flush? Without being reminded? I will happily keep doing the dishes myself for several more years if I never have to remind anyone to flush again.

I'm glad you had a great Mother's Day, but I think the kids are going to regret showing you their talents and may regress some.

I'm so waiting for that day.

I've already promised my daughter that when she's older, I'm putting her to work.

Right now she thinks it sounds fun.

Heheheh *evil grin*
